Installation & security guide

What to do when macOS or Windows warns about an unverified developer the first time you open mysnipbox.

mysnipbox is a local-first app: your images, tags and templates are stored on your own computer. The first builds don't have an operating-system code-signing certificate yet, so macOS (Gatekeeper) or Windows (SmartScreen) may show a security warning the first time you open the app. The steps below open it safely. Before you start, you can confirm the file is exactly what we published by comparing its SHA-256 checksum on the download page.

macOS (Gatekeeper)

Move mysnipbox to the Applications folder first, then follow the steps for your macOS version.

macOS 12 to 14

  1. 1Open the Applications folder, right-click (or Control-click) the mysnipbox icon and choose Open.
  2. 2In the warning that appears, click Open again. You only need to do this the first time.

macOS 15 (Sequoia) and later

  1. 1Try to open mysnipbox once and close the warning.
  2. 2Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the Security section and click Open Anyway next to the message about mysnipbox.
  3. 3Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then click Open.
Terminal
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/mysnipbox.app

Windows (SmartScreen)

  1. 1Run the downloaded .exe installer. A blue Windows protected your PC window appears.
  2. 2Click the More info link.
  3. 3Click the Run anyway button that appears at the bottom.
